Developing and Implementing Early Warning Systems to Keep All Students on the Graduation Path: Lessons, Tools, and Results from the Field
Quill was invited to present at an all-day workshop of school leaders, educators, and technical assistance providers interested in building early warning systems for identifying and supporting students most at risk of not graduating from high school. As a member of an emerging national community of practice focused on EWS, Quill was asked to share promising practices, tools and other resources; as well as challenges and lessons learned from their recent efforts of building the groundwork and creating a locally-informed implementation strategy of an EWS in middle schools in rural Virginia. This implementation strategy has helped build capacity in school systems across Virginia to create, and implement a sustainable EWS by focusing not just on the mechanics of implementing an EWS, but also of building the culture of using data to change practice at every level, from classroom to the central office.
